Jean Rostand middle school, gymnasium, multipurpose hall

The new middle school is a structuring facility for the development of the neighbourhood. The square is an extension of the Avenue des Droits de l’Homme square. The entrance porch expresses the opening, in the axis of the square, of the middle school to the city. To accentuate the connection, the treatment of the square, in sawn paving stones, continues that of the public spaces. It follows the limits of the plot. It offers an urban facade on a human scale, which draws the contours of the new block.
It is the building that delimits the college, avoiding the fences. The building marks both the entrance to the city and represents an important equipment that energizes the neighborhood. The R+1 buildings offer to the neighbouring dwellings a view on the vegetated roof of the college.

The new equipment is visible, legible, friendly. Variations are made in the continuous treatment of the three urban facades. The main facade on the square deploys a large opening at the level of the porch in transparency with the courtyard. The bays form large modules with wooden sunshades. A large glass façade
opens onto the reception hall. The college offers a rich urban facade, punctuated with transparencies. Large bays, on the outside of the wall, open onto the library, the art rooms and the teachers’ rooms. The new college is a key element for the synergy of this new piece of town.
